Remember our contest #LoveQuito organized together with Just Travelous, Quito Turismo and LATAM Airlines? Alina Rudya was the lucky winner and she wants to explain her experience in Quito:
6 months ago I won a trip to Quito, Ecuador. On Instagram. Yes, I am that lucky.
I stayed there for 4 nights and 5 days in a beautiful apartment provided by Only-apartments, overlooking the Pichincha volcano.
Quito is a hidden gem, still undiscovered by huge crowds of tourists and overlooked by travel guides.
The historic centre of Quito has one of the largest, least-altered and best-preserved historic centres in the Americas and was proclaimed UNESCO world heritage in 1978.
I’ve spent 5 days in Quito and its surroundings and enjoyed every minute of it – from the touristic sightseeing to drinking whiskey with locals on the street.
Found in the 16th century, Quito is spread on the aptitude of almost 3000 m, which leaves you lightheaded the moment you exit the plane. Usually one needs couple of days to get adapted to the low pressure, so take your time.
I was really lucky to have an English speaking guide, who showed me all around the city and told me of its history and current events.
Quito was my introduction to South America and I was fascinated by the local cuisine and culture as well as by the breath-taking landscapes. People I’ve met were really friendly too and despite my lack of Spanish, I managed to get along and feel myself safe and welcomed. I really hope to visit Galapagos Islands and the coast on my next trip to Ecuador.
This was my small inside into the understated South American capital – I really hope more people can discover it in the next years.
